Warren Hopeful of 2016 Queensland Oaks Berth for Zasorceress

May 24th, 2016

Jason Warren remains hopeful Zasorceress will gain a star in the 2016 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) despite being balloted out of a vital lead-up run in The Roses at Doomben over the weekend.

Zasorceress has stamped herself as one to watch through a number of impressive performances for Warren this time, and has posted a total of one win and two minors eight competitive starts.

Running well amongst standout company in several Sydney black type races, Warren saddled Zasorceress to an impressive win in the Food Traders Australia Maiden (1800m) upon her arrival in Queensland on May 21st.

Unlucky to miss a start in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Doomben on Saturday after figuring as the race’s second emergency, Warren told Racing Victoria he is confident the Zabeel filly will be perfectly suited to the conditions of the 2016 Queensland Oaks, and is hopeful she will gain a start.

“I wanted to give her a kill because she has been close on a number of occasions but just hasn’t been able to put a field away,” Warren said.

“I think she will take a lot of benefit from it confidence wise. I was really pleased with the way she was able to relax just off the speed and then build through her gears and attack the line.

“Hopefully it is enough to get her in the field for the Oaks.

“I’m really keen to get her over the Oaks distance, we missed out in Sydney so fingers crossed we can get her in the Queensland edition.

“The run on Saturday will bring her on fitness wise and have her in great order heading to the Oaks.

“I’m really pleased with the way she has handled the trip to Brisbane and her win last Saturday suggests to me she is on target.”

Running third in the BMD Urban Maiden Plate (1600m) at Pakenham on March 10th, Zasorceress made a commendable transition to black type company when third in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) on April 2nd, but failed to handle the late pace of He’s Our Rokki and Old North when seventh in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) on April 16th.
