Aiming for an impressive fourth consecutive victory in this weekend’s sole Group 1, Arabian Gold has opened as and maintained clear favouritism in betting markets for success in the Queensland Oaks, currently offered at a quote of $2.50, ahead of Tinto ($7.50), Khutulun ($8) and Rock Diva ($11).

Will Arabian Gold break-through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing, or will one of her talented rivals cause the day’s biggest upset?

1st

Star Fashion ($17)

Arguably hitting peak condition over her two most recent starts, Star Fashion undoubtedly offers punters the best value for money in betting markets for success in the 2014 Queensland Oaks at current odds. Strolling home to win the Australia Plate (1440m) by more than six lengths first-up on February 16th, the Street Cry filly was unlucky to be blocked for a run in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) on March 8th, but has since returned to impressive form in finish fourth amongst classy competition in the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m) and second in both the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) and Listed Centaurea Stakes (2006m) most recently. Allocated the central barrier 8, Star Fashion arguably poses the biggest threat to Arabian Gold this weekend.

2nd

Arabian Gold ($2.50)

Undoubtedly hitting career best form over her current preparation, Arabian Gold has been the standout staying filly through 2014 so-far and is a great chance to continue her strong run of form in the Queensland Oaks. Appearing to have returned to racing in only fair condition this time in, the Dubawi filly overcame a disappointing run for eleventh in the Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1600m) with three impressive victories back-to-back; claiming the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m), Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) and Group 2 The Roses (2000m) most recently. Suffering an injury scare when twisting and standing on a shoe during work this week, it is unsure whether or not Arabian Gold will line up in peak condition this weekend despite trainer David Vandyke confident his stable’s star has not been affected.

3rd

Hera ($16)

A standout performer in her native New Zealand, Hera offers punters exceptional value for money at current $16 odds to claim the 2014 Queensland Oaks, or $4.80 to run a place. A standout performer over the spring of 2013, the O’reilly filly finish worse than second just once in six appearances on course, winning both the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) and Group 2 Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m) most notably. While yet to break through for a race win over two starts in Australia, trainer Kris Lees is confident strong pieces of work completed by Hera over the last fortnight will lead to a polished performance this weekend.
