2014 Queensland Oaks Betting Update

May 29th, 2014

A capacity field of 18 plus five emergencies has been confirmed for this weekend’s featured Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse, offering punters great value from a betting point of view and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.

Aiming for an impressive fourth consecutive victory and maiden at the highest level of Australian racing, Arabian Gold has opened as and maintained status as clear $2.50 favourite for success in the 2014 Queensland Oaks.

The winner of eight competitive starts and claiming a further two minor places from only 17 appearances on track to date, Arabian Gold has undoubtedly hit career-best form over her current preparation; overcoming three somewhat disappointing starts first-up with three notable victories back-to-back in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m), Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) and Group 2 The Roses (2000m) most recently.

Allocated the ideal inside barrier, trainer David Vandyke is confident the Dubawi filly has not been affected by a mid-week incident at trackwork, and is expecting another polished performance with jockey Blake Shinn on board.

Also appearing to have spiked in form over her two most recent appearances on track, Tinto arguably represents the best value for money in betting markets for success in the 2014 Queensland Oaks; offered at generous odds of $7.50 to cause the day’s big upset.

Claiming two wins and as many places from just 11 competitive starts to date, the Red Dazzler filly finished second in a minor event over 1100m first-up on March 22nd, continued to build in form on her way to an impressive victory in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) on May 3rd and second in The Roses last time out.

Allocated the reasonable barrier 6, Tinto has been confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Tim Bell and perhaps poses the biggest threat to Arabian Gold this weekend.

Interestingly figuring as the only other runner currently offered at a quote of less-than $10 in betting markets for the 2014 Queensland Oaks, Khutulun has so far received the greatest market share of wagers for success in this weekend’s feature race, cutting in from an opening quote of nearly $12 to register as clear $8 market mover.

Contesting just five competitive races since debuting on track in March, Khutulun has fast laid her claims as one to watch in the 2014 Queensland Oaks; finishing outside the places just once and claiming two resounding race wins.

Charged with overcoming the wide and awkward barrier 22, the Soldier’s Tale filly will be lining up for her maiden appearance in a Group level race this weekend, and may find the step up in class a little too great the first time. Placing a bet for Khutulun to place at current $2.90 may be a better option for the 2014 Queensland Oaks.

Currently featured at particularly generous odds of $17 for success at Eagle Farm this weekend, in-form filly Star Fashion is more than worth a wager to claim the 2014 Queensland Oaks, particularly after being allocated the central barrier 8.

While claiming just one race wins and five places from 11 starts so far, the Street Cry filly has hit great form over her two most recent performances; finishing second in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) on April 26th before finishing just off the pace of Blue Ribbon in the Listed Centaurea Stakes (2006m) last time out.
