2014 Queensland Oaks Final Field and Barrier Draw

May 28th, 2014

A capacity field of 18 plus five emergencies has been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s featured Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse, highlighted by several notable performers throughout 2014 so-far.

Aiming for a fourth consecutive race win and maiden at the highest level of Australian racing, Arabian Gold has been confirmed to take her place in this weekend’s sole Group 1.

Securing an impressive total of eight wins and two places from just 17 competitive appearances to date, Arabian Gold gas undoubtedly hit career best form over her current preparation; overcome three somewhat forgettable performances with wins in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m), Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) and Group 2 The Roses (2000m) most recently.

Allocated the ideal barrier 1, trainer David Vandyke is confident a mid-week incident involving a broken shoe will have no effect on his star’s performance, and is confident of securing the Queensland Oaks in typically impressive fashion.

Also included in the final field for the 2014 Queensland Oaks is The Roses runner-up Tinto.

Steadily building to the task at hand over five starts this time in, Tinto’s chances of causing the day’s biggest upset took a boost when regular jockey Tim Bell was confirmed to retain the ride in the Queensland Oaks.

Claiming two wins and as many places from just 11 appearances on track, the Red Dazzler filly has peaked in form at the right time for what will be undoubtedly her biggest test to date this weekend; poking clear to win the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) prior to her impressive performance for second in The Roses.

A member of in-form trainer Tony Gollan’s current crop of runners, Tornado Miss is likely to receive the run of the race in the 2014 Queensland Oaks, having received the ideal barrier 2 – one gate outside Arabian Gold.

Finishing third in her first appearance at 2000 metres in The Roses last time out, the Snitzel filly appeared to be wanting the further distance offered by the Queensland Oaks, having produced an impressive turn of foot to gain notable distance on Arabian Gold and Tinto.

Claiming a total of three wins and three places from just 15 competitive starts, Tornado Miss is a noted performer on Brisbane tracks and is also a great chance of causing an upset at Eagle Farm this weekend.

A standout performer over five competitive starts this time in, Star Fashion will leave from the central barrier 8 in the 2014 Queensland Oaks, and will be partnered by jockey Jeff Lloyd for the first time.

Saddled by renowned trainer David Hayes, the Street Cry filly strolled home to win the Australia Plate (1440m) by more than six lengths first-up on February 16th, and continued to build in class and form on her way to a memorable run for second in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on April 26th.

Finishing just odd the pace of Blue Ribbon in the Listed Centaurea Stakes (2000m) last time out, Hayes is confident Star Fashion’s commendable form and class will count for a lot in this weekend’s feature race.
