Arabian Gold Suffers Injury Scare Ahead of 2014 Queensland Oaks

Resounding pre-post favourite Arabian Gold is no certainty to take her place in this weekend’s featured Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse after suffering an injury scare during trackwork on Tuesday morning.

Early betting on this weekend’s sole Group 1 race was suspended when reports surfaced the classy Dubawi filly twisted and trod on her shoe during her pre-race workout in Brisbane, immediately prompting fears she would miss her shot at securing a maiden title at the highest level of Australian racing.

Despite the set-back, trainer David Vandyke is hopeful Arabian Gold will find the Queensland Oaks in perfect health this weekend, revealing she had galloped well after the shoe was removed and strapped.

“I’m a bit concerned, she pulled her shoe half off,” Vandyke told News Limited following Tuesday’s trackwork.

“Luckily we had some farrier tools here and I got the shoe off.

“She shifted the plate and the nail weren’t in a good position, but hopefully in the next 24 to 48 hours we won’t see any problem.

‘’We bandaged it up and she seemed to gallop well.”

Claiming an impressive total of eight race victories and two minor places from just 17 competitive appearances to date, Arabian Gold was unable to match the late pace of her rivals in any of her first three starts this preparation, but returned to impeccable form when finding the line nearly two lengths in the clear of Missvonn in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) on April 12th.

Repeating the dose when strolling home to claim the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) on April 26th, the three-year-old out of Coablo completed her second career hat-trick when beating out a classy field and securing a maiden Group 2 title in The Roses (2000m) at Doomben last time out.

A final field of 18 plus emergencies and a barrier draw for the 2014 Queensland Oaks is due to be released on Wednesday morning. is currently offering the best early odds on all major races remaining in the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival!
