Aiming for an impressive fourth-straight victory and maiden win at the highest level of Australian racing this weekend, trainer David Vandyke has maintained a position in first acceptances for the 2014 Queensland Oaks for resounding early favourite Arabian Gold.

Claiming a total of eight wins and two places from 17 competitive starts to date, Arabian Gold is a noted performer in winter events, finishing second in the Mark Agency Handicap (1080m) on May 24th 2013 before securing three impressive victories back-to-back.

Undoubtedly hitting peak condition over her current preparation, the Dubawi filly slowly rose to the task in finishing fifth in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) first-up and finishing mid-pack in each over her next two starts.

Producing a blistering turn of foot to stroll home and win the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) on April 12th, Arabian Gold repeated the dose with ease in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate before securing a maiden Group 2 victory in The Roses (2000m) last time out on May 17th at Doomben.

Despite pulling up slowly after that most recent appearance, Vandyke is confident of another polished performance in the Queensland Oaks after the three-year-old reportedly worked well over the weekend.

Also included in first acceptances for the Queensland Oaks is talented kiwi raider Telepathic.

Claiming three wins and three places from just eight race starts so far, Telepathic has returned to the track in great condition this season; claiming back-to-back victories in her native New Zealand before crossing to ditch to contest major events over the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Unlucky to finish second to Amexed in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) on May 10th, the Mossman filly appeared to struggle with the going of the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) last weekend, and may now return to New Zealand before contesting this weekend’s Queensland Oaks.

Poised to make her maiden appearance at Group 1 level in the 2014 Queensland Oaks, local hope Tornado miss has arguably received the ideal lead-in to this weekend’s feature, despite being unable to break through for a race win over five starts this season.

Finishing seventh in the Listed Princess Stakes (1600m) on April 19th, the Snitzel filly overcame poor position to claim a fighting fourth in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) on May 3rd, going one better when finishing third in The Roses last time out.

Finishing outside the places just once in five appearances so far, little-known filly Khutulun arguably poses the biggest threat on the 2014 Queensland Oaks of all remaining outside chances, having overcome widely talented fields on more than one occasion.

Debuting with a near three length victory in a Maiden event over 1200m on debut in March, the Soldier’s Tale filly has continued to build in form and experience; beating a strong field that included Tear Gas in the Routleys Bakery Filles (1600m) on April 26th most notably.

A final field of 18 and barrier draw for the 2014 Queensland Oaks is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
