Arabian Gold Favourite for Fourth Consecutive Win in 2014 Queensland Oaks

May 20th, 2014

Claiming outright early favouritism for the 2014 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) on May 31st with another impressive victory in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Doomben last weekend, trainer David Vandyke has revealed Arabian Gold is yet to completely recover from the comfortable win.

Securing a third consecutive victory at Group level when finishing nearly two lengths in the clear of Tinto on Saturday, Vandyke told TVN he is confident Arabian Gold will be in prime order come Saturday-week’s feature race.

“She felt the run, especially offer the back of the trip to Queensland, but she is progressing okay and I think she will be right back where we want her by the weekend and ready for a good gallop next week, and from there hopefully ready for the Oak” Vandyke said.

“I think it looks likely that we will be going around in the Oaks. I’m happy with her progress, she is not where I want her at the moment but she is certainly progressing.”

Not a stranger to extended recovery periods, Vandyke said the Dubawi filly displayed a similar level of fitness following her success in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) on April 12th, but has clearly returned to perfect order when strolling home to win the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) just two weeks later.

“She is a bit hit and miss, some runs she feels them and some she doesn’t, she certainly felt her run in the Adrian Knox, not so much the Frank Packer Plate, hence the reason I trialled her afterwards” Vandyke added.

“But I think she felt the run last Saturday off the back of the trip up to Queensland, knowing her as well as I do, I think she will be good to go for the Oaks.”

Claiming eight wins and two places from her 17 competitive starts to date; Arabian Gold has without doubt hit career best form over her current preparation, and was unlucky to finish mid-pack when hampered in each of her three starts prior to her most recent successes.

Continually cutting in value since displaying an impressive run on the Doomben course last time out, Arabian Gold is resounding favourite to break through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the 2014 Queensland Oaks, currently offered at a quote of $2. is currently offering the best odds on the 2014 Queensland Oaks!
