May 13th, 2014

Trainer Robert Smerdon has revealed he could be offered twice the chance of success in the featured Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse on May 31st; considering accepting positions for talented stable mates Rezoned and Every Faith.

Having each contested the Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) at South Australia’s Morphettville Racecourse last weekend, Smerdon said he will give the talented runners at good going over before deciding on whether or not to make the trip to Brisbane this season.

“We’ll will get them home, have a look at them and gives ourselves a week to look at the situation” Smerdon told TVN.

“Obviously, they wouldn’t need another run.”

Revealing he would ideally like to keep the pair racing amongst fields their own age, Smerdon said it is often a difficult task to keep runners in form when stepping up in age levels.

“A lot of horses who are competitive or even dominant against their own age at level weights struggle when they get into the big, wide world” Smerdon said.

“It’s hard to say, it’s always good to make the most of their three-year-old year.”

Securing three wins and one minor place from her 11 competitive starts to date, Rezoned has arguably hit peak condition over her four most recent appearances; winning the Highview Accounting Services Fillies Maiden (1600m) on March 20th and finishing second in the Polytrack Fillies (1600m) on April 9th.

While unable to match the late pace and eleventh in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) on April 26th, the Zabeel mare more than stamped her claims as a leading Queensland Oaks contender when strolling home to win the SA Fillies Classic last time out.

Claiming two wins and three minor places from 15 race starts so far, Every Faith is yet to register much of a competitive run of form from six appearances this preparation, but has shown great skill in winning the Listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) on March 29th and finishing third in the SA Fillies Classic most notably. is currently offering the best early odds on all major races throughout the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, including the Group 1 Queensland Oaks!
