Dear Demi Suited To Short 2013 Queensland Oaks Back Up

May 28th, 2013

Trainer Clarry Conners is confident that Dear Demi will be at her best going into the Group 1 Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm Racecourse this Saturday June 1, 2013.

Dear Demi competed in the Group 3 The Roses first up this prep, which she won, before running in the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes last start, where she placed sixth.

While many people questioned the need to run Dear Demi three weeks in a row, Conners felt it was the only way to properly prepare her for the 2013 Queensland Oaks.

“If I didn’t run her on Saturday in the Grand Prix then she would have only had one run in six weeks going into the Oaks,” Conners said.

“The Roses was her first run in a month and people don’t realise that.

“I had to run her twice before the Oaks.

“She got beaten in the Wakeful Stakes last spring when she should have won and then came out five days later and won the Oaks,” he said.

“I’ve got no concerns at all about the quick back-up and she loves it.”

Conners is unfazed about the 2,400 metre distance of the 2013 Queensland Oaks, with Dear Demi having won the Group 1 Crown Oaks over 2,500 metres last spring.

“She raced a bit dour, so that is going to suit her going to the Oaks next week,” he said.

“I thought she went nice in the Grand Prix.”
